Exploring Development Initiatives in Coastal Ghana

This study was inspired by my Summer 2013 internship with Cheerful Hearts Foundation (CHF), a non-governmental organization addressing child labor and trafficking in coastal Ghana. The project gave me a firm grasp of the social, cultural and economic mechanisms at work in the child labor issue in rural, coastal communities in southern Ghana. In addition to composing a series of essays on such themes as fishing communities and child labor, I completed a detailed proposal for a poultry farm project and submitted it to the Davis Projects for Peace Foundation with the hope of receiving enough support to complete the project after graduation.
