Connecticut College and the Toor Cummings Center provide abundant support for students involved in international studies. Accessible expert faculty and staff, combined with campus services, offer a rich selection of resources to CISLA students as they prepare for their experiences abroad.
Research
Information Services at the Charles E. Shain Library is a fountain of information. The very knowledgeable library staff is on hand to assist with research. There is a library liaison program between the librarians and students to educate them in research and bibliography methods.
Language Learning
The Global Learning Lab (GLL), located in the Walter Commons for Global Study and Engagement, supports all world language courses and provides materials and multimedia stations for course work. The GLL is the home of the Structured Independent Language Study (SILS) program, which leverages the online language learning platform Mango, as well as local expertise, to offer students the chance to study languages not taught as part of the formal curriculum.
Study Away
The Office of Study Away, located within the Collaboration Space in the Walter Commons, has detailed information about traditional semester and year study abroad programs, SATA Study Away/Teach Away programs, and current TRIP - Traveling Research and Immersion Programs.
Travel Grants
Travel Grants. Through the generosity of several donors, the CISLA has an endowed fund that enables us to solicit proposals from qualified seniors for one of the following purposes: to return to the site of their internships to continue research and effectively complete their Senior Integrated Project (SIP); to attend a domestic or international conference related to their research; or to travel to a site where they can access primary material related to their SIP. Career
The Hale Center for Career Development provides ample support to students in all phases of their career exploration. Career advisors and fellows offer advising on resumes, cover letters, mock interviews, internship and job searches, and professional skill development. CISLA scholars are required to complete the Career Preparation Course by the end of their sophomore year.
Fellowships and Scholarships
CISLA scholars are excellent candidates for a number of prestigious undergraduate and post-graduate fellowships and scholarships. Past CISLA scholars have been awarded the Critical Language Scholarship, Gilman Scholarship, Fulbright, Watson, Marshall, Beinecke, and Pickering Fellowship, among others.
