Visiting Assistant Professor of East Asian Languages and Cultures

The Department of East Asian Languages and Cultures at Connecticut College invites applications for a three-year 0.8 FTE Visiting Assistant Professor in transnational and transcultural East Asian studies, who can teach the Chinese language, beginning July 1, 2025.

Applicants should have a Ph.D. in East Asian Studies or a related field by the time of appointment. Areas of specialization are negotiable, although we are particularly interested in hiring someone who can bring innovative and cutting-edge pedagogy to the wide spectrum of our upper-level Chinese courses. Preferences will be given to outstanding, highly engaging teacher-scholars showing native or near-native proficiency in both Chinese and English, and those who are flexible and accommodating in their course offerings.

The teaching load for this position is four courses per year, including at least two Chinese language courses, other required courses for our majors and minors, and/or electives to be determined by the new hire in consultation with the department. The new member is expected to be an enthusiastic and creative collaborator with colleagues within and beyond the department.
