Carter and Love earn All-America honors at NCAA DIII Cross Country Championships
Matt Carter ’23 and Jeffrey Love ’23 finished in the top 40 at the NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships on Nov. 19, earning All-America accolades and leading the Men's Cross Country team to a 24th-place finish.
Battling icy conditions on a cold and snowy day at the Forest Akers Golf Course in East Lansing, Mich., Carter crossed the finish line for the 8k event in 25:23.4 to place 19th out of 294 runners, while Love finished in 25:23.7 to place 32nd.
The men earned a team bid to the championships for the first time since 2002. Jonathan Norton ’26 finished third for the Camels in 216th place. Brendan Mellitt ’24 and Matt Scardigno ’25 rounded out the top five for Conn, with Chris Verstandig ’23 and Harry Harwood ’25 also competing for the Camels. Love and Carter had previously qualified for the 2021 NCAA Championships as individuals and finished 95th and 144th, respectively.
Julia Curran ’23 and Lauren Hino ’24 represented the Women’s Cross Country team at the championships after receiving individual bids. Curran, racing in her second national championship, finished 103rd overall in the 6k event with a time of 23:27.9. Hino finished 178th with a time of 23:58.9.
