It’s that time of year when the leaves change, and the weather cools down. In New England, we are fortunate enough to experience four full seasons, and the College is located in the perfect area to appreciate it. I’ve created a list of places and things to do during the fall season at Conn both on campus and off. Here are some of my thoughts:

  1. Take a walk in the Arboretum. I love to take walks in the Arboretum to clear my head after a busy week. It is especially pretty during the fall when you can see the colors all around.
  2. Go apple picking. I recommend Holmbergs Orchard, not too far from campus. Apple picking is a quintessential New England fall activity and I would definitely recommend it if you have never been.
  3. Treat yourself to apple cider and cider doughnuts. You can get them from Target or another grocery store, but going to an orchard where they make them fresh is a real treat. For this, I recommend B.F Clyde's Cider Mill in Mystic. These items tend to be available year round but they are most fresh in the fall and a great way to get in a fall mood.
  4. Take advantage of fall events on campus. Many clubs host events outside like Arbofest, where bands on campus play in the Arboretum.
  5. Appreciate soup and bread days at Jane Addams (JA) Dining Hall. JA serves soup and bread for lunch on Tuesdays and Thursdays. While the meal is served year-round, the cold fall weather really makes you appreciate it.
  6. Enjoy a warm beverage at one of the coffee shops on campus. We have several coffee shops on campus, Coffee Grounds, The Coffee Closet and Blue Camel, each with their own flare. They offer seasonal drink specials like pumpkin spice lattes, peppermint hot chocolate and more.
